This qualification has been designed specifically for those working in the role of a fire safety warden. Fire wardens are individuals who have been designated the responsibility to support the ongoing management of fire safety. Their role is to contribute to the safety of those who may need to be evacuated in the instance of a potential fire safety breach.

Understand the hazards and risks associated with fire in the workplace.

  • Define the following key terms: • hazard • risk • means of escape 

  • Identify the common causes of fired in the workplace

  • Describe the components of the fire triangle

  • Identify the hazards during or after a fire, including the products of combustion

  • Describe how fire can spread

Understand how fire risk is controlled in the workplace

  • Outline the steps within a fire risk assessment

  • Describe ways to reduce the likelihood of a fire and improve safety within the workplace

  • Identify the elements of a means of escape from fire

  • Identify methods of fire detection and raising the alarm

  • Identify types and uses of fire-fighting equipment

  • Outline the duties of employers and employees with respect to fire safety in the workplace

Understand the role of the nominated fire warden

  • Describe the role and functions of fire wardens in their workplace on a day-to-day basis

  • Explain the importance of fire drills

  • Describe the priorities of a fire warden during an emergency

  • Outline the hazards that will impact the effectiveness of a fire evacuation 

  • Outline the content of a fire safety briefing 

  • Explain the importance of reporting and maintaining fire safety records

E-Assessment

  • The exam is conducted via Highfield E-assessment and is remotely invigilated online at your home or your workplace.​​

Exam Requirements

  • Photographic ID [ Passport / Driving Licence / National ID ]

  • PC/Laptop - PC or Laptop running Windows 7 or higher, or a Mac running iOS X or higher

  • Webcam

  • Smartphone running Android 4.1 or IOS 8.0 with camera / video functionality.

  • Good internet connection

  • Personal email address

Certification

  • Successful candidates receive a certificate from the Highfield Awarding Body for Compliance.
